Words from the President Liz Burgess
Lent─ a time of preparation. A time to focus our lives on the Lord of All.
Looking forward to 2014 Women of the ELCA events in New England: how can you prepare and be involved?
- Spring Gatherings – area daylong events when WELCA participants and their friends come together for fellowship, education, good food and worship, all the time with generous hearts and purses to support WELCA and local ministries. Check out our website for dates and locations near you. Feel free to register for any Spring Gathering. I will be attending the NH-Northeast MA Gathering on May 3rd and then Maine’s on May 10th. Will I see you there?
- Synod Assembly- June 5, 6, 7; Springfield, MA. New England WELCA will be participating in a joint service project with LSS New England. We will be looking for help in gathering items from Congregational Units. Complete information to be available soon. NEWELCA will also have a display table at the Assembly. Come say hello!
- 2014 Triennial Gathering in Charlotte, NC. July 24 – 27. If you can attend your life will be forever changed. I’m going─ talk to me about it.
- In preparation for our New England Synodical Women’s Organization (SWO) convention to be held at Camp Calumet please save the dates: October 23, 24 & 25. Our Churchwide staff representative will be Linda Post Bushkofsky, WELCA Executive Director. How cool is that?
As we move through the season of Lent and on to the Celebration of Easter, I wish you the peace of preparation for the Resurrection. This prayer is from the Vanderbilt Library lectionary resources.
Artist of souls, you sculpted a people for yourself out of the rocks of wilderness and fasting. Help us as we take up your invitation to prayer and simplicity, that the discipline of these forty days may sharpen our hunger for the feast of your holy friendship, and whet our thirst for the living water you offer through Jesus Christ. Amen
